A prison guard has got pregnant after having sex with an armed robber inmate in a sordid affair that many now considered scandalous.
Amber Clavell, 25, embarked on a relationship with Mark Kennedy at a Sydney correction centre – and even smuggled drugs for him before getting caught.
Clavell was working as a program and services officer at Geoffrey Pearce Correctional Centre when she became intimate with Kennedy.
The mum-of-two even wrote what cops describe as a “love letter” on her phone for Kennedy that was saved as “when you get out”.
Their illicit tryst was revealed when she got pregnant with the inmate’s child and texted her pal and fellow officer Jessica Elguindy.
In text conversations, she wrote: “I’m an idiot … I know but I’m f***ing dumb.
“I’ve done three and they’re all positive … I feel like an idiot … How did the morning after pill not work.”
To which her pal replied: “No you are not. You are such a smart girl with such a bright future ahead, you’ve just hit a wall & we will get through it.”
It was later found that Elguindy, her friend was also having a secret affair with another inmate in the prison.
Authorities became suspicious early this year when it was discovered that Clavell had out-of-hours access to the prison system as well as inmates’ phone calls using the Offender Telephone System.
After being confronted by officers, Clavell said she needed out-of-hours access because she sometimes took work home.
But after being interviewed during the formal investigation, she admitted to having an affair with the convicted inmate – and revealed she used to share intimate images with him via Snapchat.
It was later found that kenndy was using an illeagl phone to stay in touch with the prison officer.
She also admitted to smuggling 33 grams of Methamphetamine drug and packs of tobabco for the inmate inside her bra.
Clavell pleaded guilty to six charges, including supplying a prohibited drug, misconduct in public office and accessing restricted data, News AU reports.
She was reduced to tears when the judge sentenced her to two years and three months to be served as an intensive community corrections order.
The former prison guard, who was sacked earlier this year, was also given 200 hours of community service.
It comes after a prison officer who had sex with an armed robber inmate in a storeroom before having his baby wept as she was spared jail.
Rachel Stanton, 31, began sleping with Edwin Poole at HMP Five Wells in Northamptonshire where he was serving a ten-year sentence.
The mum-of-five was captured entering a storeroom with the lag for an hour of “intimacy”.
She was caught when prison staff discovered three X-rated photos and a racy love letter in Poole’s cell.
The couple continued their relationship after Stanton was suspended and had a child together but have since split.
She sobbed at Northampton Crown Court as she was spared a jail sentence for wilful misconduct in public office.
