A Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) of the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abuja has been found dead after allegedly firing at his commanding officer while on duty.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:37 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026, while personnel were on duty at the custodial centre.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the SNCO allegedly fired at the commanding officer but missed after the officer moved away, escaping unhurt.
The officer was subsequently found with what was described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound and later died from the injury.
Makama said the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear, adding that an investigation had been launched to determine what led to the shooting.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and an investigation has been launched to establish what led to the shooting,” he reported.
The remains of the deceased officer were evacuated to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) for further action.
