In Ogun State, where the heinous crime of ritual killing is a common phenomenon, the police has affirmed that it has no ready panacea to the obnoxious act other than philosophical persuasion to perpetrators.
The state’s Number One Policeman, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu made this known at a press briefing held during the week at the Police Command Headquarters, Eleweiran, Abeokuta to intimate journalists on breakthroughs on outstanding thorny crimes)
in the state.
Responding to a poser from THE STATEPOST at the briefing, CP Alamutu pointed out that the nature of ‘ritual killing’ as a crime does not often allow for preemptive actions.
Ritualists would have perfected and carried out their intentions before the crimes become known one way or the other, the police boss pointed out.
CP Alamutu explained that since the police could not get enough warning to forestall the perpetrations of the crime in most cases, what the police do now is advocacy.
We now try to convince the general public by telling them the truth that nobody can make money through ritual killing, he said.
He said that the ritualists always give their customers a large task which is almost impossible to accomplish after milking them dry financially so as to discourage them from going on with the plan of making money through ritual which of course is not feasible any way.
CP Alamutu went on to explain that despite the impossibility of the task anyway, their customers, because of the money invested so far sometimes still want to proceed at all cost.
He implored the press and the general public to join in the advocacy and help to spread the message that there is nothing like money ritual.
The Commissioner of Police earlier briefed the press about “salient security challenges encountered in the preceding year” by the police and also highlighted updates on the stages of investigation on several cases with the police.
CP Alamutu seized the opportunity of the press briefing to inform the public about several modus operandi of criminals in order to warn the general public not to fall victims of their antics.
