The police in Abuja has arrested a young man who climbed a very high mast with a placard at ASO Radio in Katampe in the morning, at about 9 a.m. with intent to commit murder.
The operatives of the FCT Police Command swiftly mobilized to the location during the week, following a distress call from concerned citizens.
The FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Andeh, says in a statement that with much professional persuasion from the Police operatives, the man later identified as Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau, was prevented from taking his own life.
“He claimed to have been observing the mast for about a week before deciding to climb it”, Adeh noted.
The FCT Police Command has now sent Shuaibu to the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) for mental assessment and evaluation following his rather troubling action, which caused apprehension in the populace by climbing a high broadband mast at ASO Radio in Katampe, Abuja, and attempting to take his own life.
The FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Andeh, who disclosed this said the suspect, if found to be mentally stable after the test, will be charged to court for attempted suicide, disturbance of public peace, and incitement contrary to sections 231, 111, and 114 of the Penal Code Act.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has urged residents to be law-abiding while pushing for their voices to be heard, as the Police will not be stampeded into allowing the breakdown of law and order.
