Three suspected members of the dreaded Eiye confraternity who police alleged to have been terrorizing Ijebu Ode and its environs for quite some time now have now been caught.
The suspects, Odukoya Odushina, Subomi Popoola and Itunuoluwa Taiwo were arrested following an information received by the Police at Obalende divisional headquarters Ijebu Ode, that cultists were holding nocturnal meeting at a black spot known as Sanga at the back of Central Mosque with the intent to unleash terror on members of the Ijebu Ode communities.
The DPO of Obalende Division acted on the information to storm the black spot with his men.
But the cultists resisted arrest as they fought back with dangerous weapons, but they were overpowered after a short while.
The alleged leader of the Eiye Confraternity in Ijebu Ode, Odukoya Odushina a.k.a Odus who is said to be the no 1 eiye, Subomi Popoola a.k.a Oyan and Itunuoluwa Taiwo were apprehended but others flee.
Preliminary investigations have now confirmed that the arrested suspects were not only into cultism, they were also into armed robbery.
It was also discovered that Odukoya Odushina had been arrested once and charged to court, but was granted bail.
On the third day after he was granted bail, he went with his gang to rob at Ayegbami area of ijebu Ode where he killed one man simply known as Baba Njo.
Some robbed items such as jewellery, phones and suspected hard drugs were recovered from them.
The group has also been linked to several cult killings in ijebu Ode and its environs.
Meanwhile, a press statement issued and e-signed by SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the
Police Public Relations Officer for the Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Lanre Bankole has ordered a full scale investigation into the activities of the cultists.
He has also ordered a massive manhunt for their fleeing members.
