Despite the unsettling off-pitch distraction effected by the alleged theft of over $1,200 from the hotel rooms of Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons in Morocco, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and head coach Justine Madugu are doing all they could to maintain camp stability.
NFF and Madugu are bent on ensuring that the Super Falcons, the defending champions, keep their focus entirely on the pitch as they finalize their strategies before traveling to Rabat.
The Super Falcons are scheduled to kick off their Group C campaign in Rabat against Malawi, in a group that also features competitive fixtures against Zambia and Egypt.
However, Moroccan authorities have officially launched an investigation into the alleged theft of over $1,200 from the hotel rooms of the Super Falcons.
According to reports from TheCable, the incident came to light after forward Esther Okoronkwo shared details of the theft on her personal Snapchat account.
The team is currently lodged at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca as part of their final preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The players strongly suspect the hotel cleaning personnel, who had direct access to the rooms while the squad was away at a training session.
Local police have since stepped in and are currently reviewing the hotel’s CCTV security footage to identify anyone who entered the rooms during that period.
A breakdown of the financial loss published by Daily Post Nigeria reveals that Esther Okoronkwo was the hardest hit, losing $700.
Other affected players include team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who is missing $200, Joy Omewa, who lost $120, while veteran defender Osinachi Ohale and midfielder Halimatu Ayinde both reported $100 missing from their personal belongings.
The total amount stolen from the players stands at $1,220, which amounts to approximately N1.7 million in Nigerian currency.
