Workers in Ogun State civil service are going to have a blithesome Christmas and New Year celebrations as the state government has now met it’s obligation to them by paying their salaries for the month of December as well as their last month’s outstanding salaries.

The delay in the payment of November salaries which dragged into a whole month got all civil servants and the organized labour agitated as many called for direct confrontation with the state government.

However, government of has now paid the outstanding salaries and has also apologised to workers in the State over the delay in the payment of the last month’s salaries.

A statement shared by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on New Media, Emmanuel Ojo, said the delay was regretted.

According to him, only the salaries of about 15 to 20 percent of the State workforce were delayed.

Ojo blamed the delay on hitches on about four banks, saying it is “the first of such delay since the inception of Dapo Abiodun Administration over three and half years ago.”

Meanwhile, Ojo said government had commenced the processing and payment of December salaries, saying staff had been getting credit alerts by Thursday morning.

Ojo noted that “while the State regrets the delays in the payment of November salaries to some staff due to some hitches with about four banks, the first of such delay since the inception of Dapo Abiodun Administration over three and half years ago; the workers are assured of a blissful Christmas celebration”.

He also recalled that “Ogun State Government is one of the few State governments that have continued to pay the national minimum wage without fail.”
