Governor Abiodun

To make progress in careers, civil servants in Ogun State must now be computer literate as promotion examinations in the civil service is now conducted via Computer Based Test (CBT).

The practice which had started with the recently held combined confirmation and promotion tests for civil servants in the state would now be extended to examinations for officers in the professional cadres in the public service.

The Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya made this known last Thursday while monitoring the June 2024 edition of the combined confirmation/ promotion tests and compulsory examinations for officers in the Junior, Sub professional and Professional cadres in the Public/ Civil Service, at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ojere, Abeokuta.

Onasanya noted that the exercise was in accordance with the extant law of the Civil Service adding that it formed part of the requirements for the confirmation of appointment of newly recruited officers in Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including Parastatals, Corporations and Boards, and represents one of the criteria to be fulfilled for eligibility for promotion of Officers who had inter cadre transfer.

‘’This edition would be the first Computer-Based Tests for the senior category in the history of the examination in the state, and it is ideal in a digitalised civil service’’, he said.

The Head of Service stated that the examination which cuts across categories of officers in the Junior and Senior cadres, aimed to test their knowledge on Public Service Rules, Financial Regulations, Office Manuals and other reference books, adding that they must be conversant with the code, ethics and practice of the service.

“The process is important because the exam will test the knowledge of the employees in the Civil Service rules which they must all be conversant with in their day to day activities as civil servants, another thing worthy of note is that this edition is the first that computer would be deployed for the senior category. I thank the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for approving the newly introduced CBT method”, Onasanya explained.

He urged the candidates to leverage the new method of writing the exam to upgrade themselves in the use of Information and Communication Technology, in order to become better Civil Servants and possess high proficiency in the use of computer.

He added that the process had further underscored the commitment of Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to staff motivation which would continue to promote efficiency and increased service delivery.

Also speaking, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo reiterated that the examination was compulsory for everyone appointed into the Civil Service before their appointment could be confirmed as their success in the examination would confirm their eligibility, competence and how familiar they are with the civil service rules.

She said the examination would be written twice a year, adding that the ongoing June 2024 edition had over 400 candidates seating for the examination in both Senior and Junior categories.

In a related development, Civil servants in Ogun State have been enjoined to leverage on the goodies of Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration by discharging their duties diligently.

The Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya gave the charge during a familiarisation visit to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, pointing out that the government of Dapo Abiodun had prioritised the welfare and wellness of workers.

Onasanya charged the state workforce to continue to do their best, in order to complement the effort of the government, noting that civil servants were the engine room of any successful administration.

Responding, the Boards’ Secretary, Dr. Mikhail Adebola appreciated the Head of Service for the visit, describing his style of leadership as exceptional and remarkable.

Also speaking, Directors of Academic and School Services, as well as Finance and Accounts in the Board, Mrs. Kehinde Anifowose Mr. Yemi Bamgbose respectively, commended the Head of Service for his unwavering support to SUBEB, promising their continued commitment to efficient service delivery and effective collaboration with his office to ensure a successful tenure.
