Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State
Ogun State is henceforth adopting a zero tolerance stance towards illegal structures within the premises of government owned educational institutions across the state.
This was made known by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Enforcement and Compliance, Mr. Babatunde Olugbewesa at a stakeholders’ meeting at the state Ministry of Education’s Conference Room at the State Secretariat in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
At the meeting, Mr. Olugbewesa stressed the decision of the state government to discourage the indiscriminate erections of illegal structures in all schools in the state.
He also pointed out the need to report dilapidated structures within government schools to appropriate authorities to avoid preventable disasters.
Mr. Sakirudeen Salaam, a Permanent Secretary in the ministry also corroborated this new decision of the state government, highlighting some preventive measures to be taken to curb the illegal developments from springing up within the premises of government schools to include establishing boundaries by fencing and obtaining surveys.
The Registrar, University, Ibogun Campus, Dr. Bayo Orukotan, stressed the need for synergy among government agencies to reduce illegal developments which were mostly erected by encroachers.
