IWD 2026: OVER 500 WOMEN TO SHARE N35MILLION CASH GRANTS - Image 1

Adijat Adeleye, Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Dev.

About 550 women in Ogun State are to benefit from ₦35 million cash empowerment granted by the State Government to enhance the livelihoods of women.
The grant is to be divided among 50 women who will receive ₦200,000 each, while 500 others will get ₦50,000 respectively.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, disclosed this at the commemoration of the 2026 International Women’s Day, themed “Give to Gain,” at the Royal Pavilion, Ijebu-Ode.
Hon. Adeleye stated that the grant would form part of the State government’s commitment at ensuring the financial independence of women and providing opportunities for them to invest in personal growth and business ventures, noting that their self-esteem and confidence would be boosted.
“Women have remained central to the State’s progress over the decades, hence Prince Dapo Abiodun’s efforts to drive women’s inclusion for economic growth, with this year’s theme, ‘Give to Gain,’ I call for sacrifice, service and intentional investment in one another as pathways to sustainable development,” she said.
The Commissioner implored women to harness their collective strength, particularly through the strategic use of their Permanent Voters’ Cards, to support progressive leadership, urging them to pursue their aspirations boldly while contributing meaningfully to societal advancement.
Adeleye further stressed that expanding women’s participation in governance would enhance economic opportunities and strengthen protections for their rights and dignity, reaffirming that their collective power could shape governance, drive economic growth and influence the State’s future political direction.
In their goodwill messages, a former Senator, Chief (Mrs.) Iyabo Anisulowo, and Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Mrs. Folashade Adeyemo urged women to actively participate in politics and take deliberate steps to elect credible leaders with integrity, noting that women’s involvement remained critical to strengthening democratic processes in the State.
Also in her remarks, the Iya Oloja of Yewaland, who doubles as Iyaloja General Mrs. Yemisi Abass, emphasised that women’s voices, when united and strategic, have the power to shape political outcomes and influence governance, calling for sustained engagement that would ensure inclusive representation and responsive leadership in the State and the country at large.
