The Commisioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Babaji Sunday, in collaboration with the Heads of other Security Agencies in the FCT, has flagged-off the second phase of a special anti-crime operation, codenamed Operation G-7, to combat violent crimes in the FCT and other neighboring/border states.

A statement by FCT Police spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, says the second phase of Operation G-7 is an improvement on the 1st Phase flagged off earlier in the year.

“The 2nd Phase, which is a product of assessment of performance of the 1st phase, would engender improved inter-agency collaboration, proactive crime prevention and law enforcement activities, and dedicated spirit on the part of the security community, to keep the FCT, its neighboring States, safe and secure”, she stated.

The CP, according to the statement, noted that the special operation has become necessary as part of preparations by the security community to ensure a hitch-free Christmas and New Year Festivities, amongst other imperatives.

The statement added that the rejigged operation has begun to yield positive result as operatives arrested 3 suspected Kidnappers namely: Abubakar Umaru, Nasiru Umaru, and Haruna Sulu, all male residents of Niger State, in connection with the kidnapping incident at Kasanki village in Gwagwalada Area of the FCT  on December 12, 2022.

The arrest was made possible following an intelligence-led operation by the operatives of Operation G7.

The operatives stormed a suspected criminal camp at Gulida village, a border community with Abaji, at about 04:00hrs on December 13, 2022 and the unrelenting efforts led to arrest of the suspects and the recovery of exhibits.

The CP, while addressing the Operatives during the flag-off, charged them to ensure that criminal elements have no breathing space in the FCT.

He enjoined residents to trust and continue to support the police with credible and timely information, through the following numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883, while the Public Complaint Bureau (PCB) desk, could be reached at 0902 222 2352.

In another development, the FCT Commissioner of Police,  has enjoined residents to promptly report suspicious activities through police emergency lines.

The federal capital Territory police command has deployed personnel and material resources in their thousands across the nooks and crannies of the Territory ahead of the yearly anticipated festivities.

The proactive deployment, which consists of all Intelligence and tactical assets at the Command’s disposal cemented with inter-agency collaboration is occasioned by the need to ensure that crime and criminality in its forms and dynamics are promptly nipped in the board.

“The deployment is notably characterized by strengthened police-community relationship towards intelligence gathering, Stop and search, intelligence-led raids on black spots, visibility policing at every point of social convergence, highway and border patrol, aggressive vehicular/foot patrol, and surveillance, inter-agency collaboration and sundry”.

Consequent upon the above, the FCT Commissioner of police, CP Babaji Sunday, psc, wishes to assure residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that residents sleep with their two eyes closed in the festive period and beyond.

Meanwhile, the CP while briefing senior officers from all units and formations of the Command on the Operation Order, charged the officers to ensure that no stone is left unturned even as they discharge their duties with respect for fundamental human rights and in tandem with global best practices.

He also enjoined residents to embrace peace and other virtues in the spirit of festivity while vigilance is maintained and reports of suspicious activities are to be made to the police through the command emergency response lines as follows; 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883, while the Public Complaint Bureau (PCB) desk, could be reached at 0902 222 2352.
