The Ogun State Police Command has deployed its School Protection Squad across the state as schools resume academic activities, with the move aimed at strengthening security around educational institutions and ensuring the safety of pupils, teachers and other school personnel.
The deployment, according to the Command, is in line with the strategic policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu which emphasises proactive, preventive and community-oriented policing.
The School Protection Squad is expected to enhance police visibility around schools, safeguard school infrastructure, gather actionable intelligence and facilitate swift response to emerging security threats.
As part of efforts to deepen the initiative, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, recently received an executive delegation of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Safe School Club, led by its State Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Babatunde Lawal, at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration among the Police, school authorities, parents, students and other community stakeholders towards the early identification, reporting and prevention of security threats within and around schools.
CP Ojajuni commended the PCRC Safe School Club initiative and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the partnership, charging members of the School Protection Squad to remain vigilant and maintain close engagement with school communities.
He also directed the squad to respond promptly to credible security information and ensure that potential threats are identified and addressed before they escalate into incidents.
The Commissioner reiterated that the Command would continue to prioritise threat anticipation, incident prevention and swift protective intervention, while urging school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents, students and members of the public to remain vigilant.
The Command particularly called on residents to embrace the principle: “See Something, Say Something.”
It advised members of the public not to ignore suspicious persons, vehicles, movements or activities around schools, stressing that timely information could prevent security incidents.
