The Baale of Opeji, a town in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, Baale Ganiyu Rasak has commiserated with the people of Ondo State and families of the victims of June 5th, terror attack at Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owaluwa, Owo.
The Baale noted mournfully that it was heart rendering to see how deeply everybody was touched especially at the funeral mass at the Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owaluwa, recently where people including the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu and his wife, Chief Betty Anyanwu – Akeredolu wept bitterly for the slain victims of the terror attack.
Baale Ganiyu who described the terror attack as a cowardly act by evil minded perpetrators however advised that the Southwest states should see it as a call to rejigger their security infrastructures.
In an exclusive chat with THE STATEPOST in Abeokuta during the week, Baale Ganiyu noted that for the perpetrators to defile the sanctity of the church showed how heinous they are.
He said such dastard terrorists as these should not be shown any mercy when the long arm of the law catches up with them as they are vermin that must be obliterated from the surface of the earth and from among the civil society.
Baale Ganiyu implored all the governors in the region not to see this terror attack as solely affecting only the people of Ondo State but as a matter of concern to the whole subregion.
He called for an immediate response to the terror attack which he said was a despicable and dangerous occurrence and direct threat to the regional security structure of the sub-region which calls for all hands to be on deck.
The Baale, former Chairman of the Baale in Council of Odeda Local Government Area in Ogun State and a notable traditional ruler pointed out that if this new threat is not tackled head on, the consequences of this menacing attack could be disastrous to the region.
He said the terror threat is not only capable of halting the economic advancements of the south west which is a thing of pride to all in the region but it could put on hold the pervading peace in the region.
Baale Ganiyu insisted that the Owo Church Massacre should not be seen in isolation as it was the gradual incursion of terror which may eventually overwhelm the region if not expressly and effectively confronted.
He prayed for the families of the slain victims and the wounded especially those still in the hospital, wishing them timely recovery.
