Members of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Ogun State, yesterday joined other  surveyors worldwide to call attention to the relevance of land survey in nation building and to reassure the general public that the Surveyor is a friend.

To mark the Annual Global Surveyors’ Day yesterday, March 21, members of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors in Ogun State joined their other counterparts worldwide on Awareness Walk to also sensitised the public about the need to be the friends of Surveyors in order to avoid been scammed on land matters.

The global surveyors day walk which was led by the State Chairman, Surveyor Ademola Adebowale, started from the secretariat of the institution at Ijeja en-route Oke Ilewo, Opic roundabout , Iwe Iroyin  to kuto market.

Flyers were freely distributed to motorists and passersby while on the Awareness Walk which culminated at kuto Market where traders and the public were addressed by surveyors on land fraud and scam.

He explained that “Our coming to kuto therefore is to  bring enlightenment to the public after we have done  radio and television enlightenment for 13 weeks”.

“We saw the need to further stress the awareness to the grass roots the  need to contact registered surveyor before the purchase of a land”, he stressed.

Speaking at the occasion, the chairman, Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria, Surveyor Kayode Adekoya also a fellow of the Institution, maintained that land fraud is increasing daily.

He noted that “as part of our obligations, we felt it is important for us to come and meet our people, the Babalojas’ and Iyalojas’ in the market to enlighten them not to waste their hard earned Naira on fraudsters by patronizing unregistered surveyors who has no name and can not be traced.

He also emphasized that they are free to come and report their land dispute with surveyor earlier contacted who refused to fulfill the contract agreement.

In his own submission, the Institution secretary, Surveyor Debo Adeoye a fellow- elect said “in as much as building a place of abode to keep your head is one of the three basic needs of mankind, land will always be needed by all and sundry, therefore it is imperative to engage not only a professional surveyor but a professional who is registered with our association so that when trouble comes on land related matters, the Institution could be able to assist the client to solve it”.

Surveyor Adeoye said “land scammers are out there waiting for who to scam hence, to avoid falling into wrong hands, since no one can build on the sky, we are creating today’s awareness to inform the public about the dangers of patronizing non members of the association”.
