The former Governor of Lagos State and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, may have opened his presidential campaign office in Abuja towards an ambition to clinch his party ticket for the office of the president in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections.
The palatial compound, a 2,700 square metres expanse which was suspected to have been leased to serve as his presidential campaign headquarters is a Maitama property that once housed a private school in Abuja, the Eagle Heights International Schools.
The building sits just North of the Philippines Embassy at 2, Kainji Crescent and just across the street from Body of Benchers, which regulates admission into Nigerian legal education institutions
The property was said to have been secured for two years at N15m per annum, a deal many in the real estate sector will confirm as a bargain as it is in one of the exquisite neighbourhoods of Abuja.
There were no immediate signs though from outside that the property holds Tinubu’s campaign office, but information close to the campaign confirmed that activities have intensified inside for the former Lagos governor’s presidential bid.
A campaign insider said the office was deliberately tucked between the conspicuous intersection of Kainji Crescent and Lake Chad Crescent because they needed a place that would provide just enough space needed to run the primaries exploration.
Depending on how activities expand ahead of primaries and general elections, the campaign may still move to a location in downtown neighbourhoods like Garki, Central Area or Wuse.
Tinubu has long been rumoured to be interested in running for President but he has sparingly obfuscated questions around his ambition and clearly has not begun open consultation as an aspirant.
But his supporters have been coordinating in Lagos, Abuja and elsewhere to work towards a seamless strategy that will see him clinch the APC presidential ticket.
Abiodun Faleke, a senior federal lawmaker fabled for his acerbic take on parliamentary business, is a key coordinator of the new campaign office and will likely play a top role in Tinubu’s gamble for the position.
A direct pointer to Tinubu’s Keen interest for the exalted position however is his continued collection of able politicians who can further his interest and help him to achieve his aim.
In one of such moves was his recent securement of Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State, an astute politician and consummated tactician who is suspected to have been ensadled with the task of conducting his southwest arm of the campaign.
