Six candidates in Kogi state have been rejected by their party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP from contesting in the forthcoming 2023 senatorial elections.
They were rejected by the PDP’s vetting committee following reports of serious allegations of wrongdoing and anti-party activities.
Some of the candidates were outrightly dismissed but they were all given the option of challenging the committee’s judgment in court.
The six disqualified senatorial candidates included Itodo Okpanachi, and Aminu Abubakar Suleiman.
Itodo Okpanachi and Aminu Abubakar Suleiman were disqualified from the Kogi East senate election due to alleged anti-party activities but the two have expressed their desire to challenge the committee’s decisions.
Suleiman was rejected by the Lokoja screening committee because he is not a registered voter in the senatorial district and thus cannot vote in the upcoming senate election.
Okpanachi was suspected of working as a stooge for the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he was supposedly appointed.
Ahmed Ogembe, running for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat, was also dropped.
Ismail Inah Hussein, a House of Representatives candidate from the Idah Federal Constituency, was also removed for of anti-party action.
