1. COVID-19: FG Reviewing Jan 18 School Resumption Date

President Muhammadu Buhari-led government on Monday disclosed that it would review the January 18 earlier date scheduled for the resumption of schools across Nigeria.

The Federal Government attributed its decision to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, stated this while answering questions during a press briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.

2. DSS Exposes Plot To Incite Religious Violence In Lagos, Kaduna, Others

The Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday alleged that some individuals are plotting to incite religious violence in some Nigerian states.

Naija News reports that the DSS disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday titled ‘Plots to incite religious violence in Nigeria’, signed by its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya.

The Nigerian secret police warned that some worship centres and religious leaders may be attacked.

3. Insurgency Has Been Defeated in Nigeria – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said Boko Haram insurgents have been decimated in the Northeast part of the country.

In an interview with NAN on Monday, Coordinator of Defence Media Operations, John Enenche, said the Nigerian military has also checkmated the operations of the terrorists in the troubled region.

He noted that the federal government and the Armed Forces defeated the insurgents in the Northeast and across the country in 2015.

Enenche said the initial delay in tackling the menace made the insurgents take over territories and set up administrative structures before they were finally defeated in 2016.

4. NIMC Warns Nigerians Against Fake App For Linking NIN

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has warned Nigerians against the use of a fake app that claims to help link the National Identity Number to SIM cards.

Naija News reports that the NIMC stated this on Monday in a post on its Twitter handle.

The Commission distanced itself from the app saying it is run by fraudsters who use it to get people’s NIN and Bank Verification Number.

“The app was not created by NIMC or the Federal Government of Nigeria. It is run by fraudsters who are currently harvesting people’s NINs and BVNs by default,” NIMC said.

5. Wike Is A Controversial And Rascally Politician But I’m His Senior Brother – Okorocha

Former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha has praised Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike as a dogged and astute politician.

He added that Wike is a controversial Nigerian politician known for his political rascality and doggedness.

Speaking on Monday during the commissioning of Rumueche/Rumuakunde Ohna Awuse Road in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Okorocha added that he is a senior brother to Wike but may not possess the notorious behavioural pattern of the Rivers State Governor.

6. Former Nigerian Governor Dies Of COVID-19

A former Military Administrator of Kano and Benue states, Aminu Isa Kontagora has died.

Naija News reports Aminu Isa Kontagora died on Sunday night, January 10, after a brief illness at a hospital in Abuja.

A close family member of the former military administrator who announced the passing told Channels Television Kontagora died of COVID-19 related complications.

7. Travels, School Reopening Caused Rise In COVID-19 Cases – PTF

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, on Monday, said travels, reopening of schools, businesses and religious centres have contributed to the increase in COVID-19 cases in Nigeria.

Mustapha stated this during the PTF media briefing in Abuja, on Monday.

He said, “It is however very instructive to stress that factors that have contributed to rising in numbers from late November 2020 included increased local and international travels, business and religious activities, reopening of schools without strict compliance with COIVID-19 safety measures.”

8. IGP Adamu Assures Nigerians Of Improved Security In 2021

The Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, on Monday assured Nigerians of improved security in 2021.

Mohammaed in his statement promised that the Nigeria Police Force will be determined in fighting kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry, cultism, cybercrime, sexual and gender-based violence in 2021.

According to the IGP, the police would be aggressive, proactive, intelligence-driven and community-based crime-fighting strategies will be implemented by the Force in ensuring the safety of Nigerians.

9. Omoyele Sowore Meets Bail Condition, Sends Message To Nigerians

The Publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, and four others have met their bail conditions following charges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and inciting public disturbance.

Speaking to newsmen, Sowore thanked Nigerians for their support and show of love while in detention.

The former presidential candidate of the AAC and co-covener of the RevolutionNow movement assured Nigerians that he would not give up until the country is finally and completely liberated.

10. COVID-19: FG Threatens To Shut Down Train Services If… – Amaechi

Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has warned that the federal government may be forced to shut down train services if passengers do not comply with COVID-19 protocols.

The Minister made the submission on Monday, 11th January while speaking on a TV interview programme monitored by Naija News.

Amaechi noted that the train conveys a large number of people on a daily basis and if perhaps an infected person boards the train or covid-19 protocols are not observed, the rate of transmission will be very high.
