Asiwaju Tinubu and his running mate, Shettima
A notable politician in Ogun State, Alhaji Semiu Bola Lawal has opined that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential flagbearer in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections deserved applauses and praises rather than condemnations over his choice of a same faith running mate.

In a telephone conversation with THE STATEPOST recently, Alhaji Lawal popularly known as SEMBOL said Asiwaju Tinubu has taken a bold step to move the country forward by doing what many politicians in the country were afraid to do all these years.
Alhaji Lawal, a former chairman of Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State and now recently appointed Governorship Liason Officer to Governor Dapo Abiodun for the same local government noted that by this bold initiative, Tinubu has shown his leadership qualities by rising above petty sentiments which are mere divisive considerations capable of pulling back or stagnating the country.
He described Senator Kashim Shettima, the choice of Tinubu as a tested politician who is capable of doing the job any day adding that what Nigeria needed now is somebody with enough experience and I.Q who could do the job and not religious sentimentalities.
The APC stalwart cautioned that bringing religion into politics may make things worse for the country noting that “in the South here, All our governors are Christians and nobody is complaining”
He pointed out that if the on-going religious sentimentality is allowed to fester unbridled, it would bring confusion and anarchy into the nation’s body politics as even pagans would begin to demand for slots too and many incompetent elements would begin to use this as an excuse to be noticed.
Alhaji Lawal said APC must have had its reasons for acceding to Asiwaju Tinubu’s choice of Senator Shettima and what is paramount to any political party is winning an election and the capability to do the job.
The Abeokuta based politician pointed out that in all of these qualities, Senator Shettima meets the nation’s demands.
