The Amizi Autonomous Community of Olokoro Clan Development Union (OCDU) of Abia, in Abia State, has called on the Inspector General of Police to wade into the misuse and abuse of its personel by its former President General, Barrister Nnachebe Uhiara and his wife Mrs. Nwadinma Uhiara to allegedly harass innocent residents of the community.
In a statement issued by the community, it alleged that the couple who were both former President General of the Men and Women’s Wings of Amizi Autonomous Community of Olokoro Clan Development Union (OCDU) of Abia State, have been harassing innocent indigenes of the town with their Police escorts.
“We are drawing the attention of the Police authorities to the above complaints which has been recurring incessantly, and which amount to unprofessionalism, abuse, and misuse of Police Personnel attached to one Barr Nnachebe Uhiara and his wife Mrs. Nwadinma Uhiara who were both former President General of the Men and Women’s Wings of Amizi Autonomous Community of Olokoro Clan Development Union (OCDU) of Abia State.
“It is pertinent to state that upon the appointment of Barr. Nnachebe Uhiara as President General of the Men’s, and his wife as President General of the Women’s Wing of Amizi Autonomous Community, both procured the services of armed Police Escort to serve as body guard to them with a view to perpetrate acts of lawlessness against the people of Amizi Olokoro Community, its traditional authority, custom and tradition.
The community also alleged that “Barr Nnachebe Uhiara and Mrs. Nwadinma Uhiara will storm lawful Community meetings in the Town Hall or anywhere in the Community scheduled for annual customary ceremonies and activities with thugs and Hoodlums wielding Cutlasses and Bottles and scatter such Ceremonies using the Police Escorts as a shield.
“Sometimes in October 2020 Mrs. Nwadinma Uhiara came in with some thugs and blocked the convoy of the Traditional Ruler Eze Dr. Lawrence Nnanta Eluwa, dragged the aged Monarch out of his official Vehicle and assaulted him, all attempts by the entourage of the Monarch to prevent her from perpetrating her pre-planned act of lawlessness was prevented by the Police Escorts procured to provide so called protection for her while she display her habitual acts of challenging, confronting and assaulting whoever attempts to call her and her husband to order.
“Very recently, precisely on the 11th of August, 2022 Mrs. Nwadinma Uhiara stormed the meeting of the Women’s Wing of Amizi Olokoro Community Development Union with thugs and pull off the Tents (under which the Women sat peaceably to conduct their meeting) and scattered the meeting with cutlass wielding thugs including her Police escort, despite the fact that both of them are no more President General of the Men’s and Women’s Wings respectively.
“The above is just to mention but a few of the acts of lawlessness been perpetrated regularly within the Community by Barr Nnachebe Uhiara and Mrs. Nwadinma Uhiara during scheduled annual traditional and customary ceremonies and activities with thugs in their company and their dedicated Police Escorts shielding them under the cover of a so called protection for a couple who has a notorious pedigree of waywardness and lawlessness within the Community.
“It is even disgustingly disheartening to state that sometimes the Police escorts would assist carry their hand bags while they convocate acts of lawlessness.
“Although a random sampling of opinion within Amizi Olokoro Community of Abia State will confirm the lawless character and disposition of Barrister Nnachebe Uhiara and his wife Mrs Nwadinma Uhiara, we nevertheless implore the IGP to critically investigate our complaint with a view to direct the withdrawal of the Police escort they are publicly parading themselves with, solely for the purposes of self-aggrandisement, self-ego, perpetration of lawlessness and harassment of innocent members of the Community.
The Community stated that they believe “that their behaviour in the Community would be normal and law abiding but for the armed Escorts that gives them backing and become over-bearing.
All attempts by Our Correspondent to get reactions of Barrister Nnachebe Uhiara and his wife Mrs. Nwadinma Uhiara were abortive as calls put across to the duo were not picked and text messages sent to their phone number were not answered.
