The September resumption date for schools in Lagos State as announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu may not be error proof after all as the governor has just done a volte face saying the date is tentative.
The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) Unit of the Lagos State Ministry of Education has also issued a release to warn the public to disregard a resumption timetable in the social media.
The timetable, which claims to be the 2020/2021 academic calendar, states that the first term of the session will start on September 21 and end on December 18.
But Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu now said that the resumption date he announced was tentative.
The purported calendar gives January 11, 2021 and May 3 as the start dates for second and third terms.
However, a statement yesterday by OEQA spokesman Emmanuel Olaniran said the academic calendar did not emanate from its office.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Task Force On Covid-19 in Nigeria has warned states against rushing to reopen schools as such decision had escalated Covid-19 management situations in other countries.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, Boss Mustapha said this on Monday during the presidential task force on Covid-19 briefing in Abuja.
He noted that it would be in the best interest of Nigeria to stick to its slow phased easing of lockdown rules because it was effective.
