The Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigation into allegations of farmland destruction, criminal intimidation and suspected land-grabbing activities in Ajogbo Akia community.

The investigation followed media reports detailing complaints by the traditional leader and residents of the community over alleged encroachment on farmlands and other unlawful activities in the area.

In a statement dated August 28, 2026, and signed electronically by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, the Command said the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, had directed the immediate investigation of the allegations.

According to the police, the investigation is aimed at establishing the facts surrounding the complaints, identifying anyone found to have committed offences and ensuring that appropriate legal action is taken against suspects where necessary.

The Command, however, clarified that disputes over land ownership and boundary adjustments are essentially civil matters which should be resolved through competent courts of law.

It stressed that parties involved in land disputes should not resort to self-help, violence or other unlawful means to enforce claims over disputed properties.

The police explained that where an individual has a legitimate title or statutory documentation establishing ownership of a parcel of land, any subsequent criminal act against such property remains a matter that can be reported to the police.

Such offences, the Command noted, may include malicious damage to crops, destruction of property, criminal trespass and threats to life, all of which can be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, CP Ojajuni has ordered the deployment of high-visibility operational patrols and intelligence assets to Ajogbo Akia and adjoining agricultural corridors in a bid to maintain peace and protect residents and farmers.

The Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers with jurisdiction over the affected areas have been directed to ensure that the patrol teams maintain a strong presence in the communities both day and night.

The police said the measure is intended to enable farmers and residents to access their farmlands and carry out their legitimate activities without fear of violence, harassment or unlawful interference.

The Command reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards illegal land-grabbing, self-help, intimidation and threats to life, warning individuals and groups against taking the law into their own hands.

The police also commended the Baale of Ajogbo Akia, Dr. Oluwasegun Adebiyi, and other community leaders for seeking police intervention rather than allowing the dispute to degenerate into violence.

The Command appealed to residents and other stakeholders to remain calm and law-abiding while the investigation continues.

It further urged members of the public to cooperate with investigators by providing credible and actionable information that could assist the police in identifying those responsible for any criminal activities and sustaining peace in Ajogbo Akia and other parts of the State.
