In its determination to curtail building collapses in its state, Ogun State Government is collaborating with a professional body that will help it to checkmate its occurrences as the government of Prince Dapo Abiodun signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG), Ogun State Chapter, today at the Ministry’s Conference room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl. Olatunji Odunlami made this known in Abeokuta yesterday, noting that the move would curb the menace of building collapse and non-compliance to building regulations leading to construction defects.
Odunlami revealed that the Guild would assist the present administration in the monitoring and inspection of building constructions in partnership with the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority (OGBPMA).
The Commissioner affirmed that the State government is taking a proactive step towards forestalling loss of lives and property arising from building collapse, hence the need for concerted efforts of organised professional bodies to ensure a more resilient and safer environment in the State.
He said BCPG comprises relevant registered professionals in the built sector such as Engineers, Architects, Builders, Land Surveyors, Estate Valuers, Town Planners, and Quantity Surveyors, pointing out that the Guild’s objectives include, working in partnership with government and her agencies at all levels, monitoring and ensuring that construction activities were properly carried out.
