Construction works at the first phase of the Ogun Agro Cargo Airport project is nearing completion.

Structural works on the project are being intensified to meet the delivery date, that will witness the landing of the first Cargo plane, making history in the State.

This was brought to the fore during an ongoing routine assessment visit by the Central Department of Monitoring and Evaluation of the Ministry of Budget and Planning to the project site in Iperu area of the State .

Leading the delegation to the project site, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Development Partners, Mr. Bayo Adenekan, who expressed satisfaction at the level of work done so far by the contractors and the executing Ministry, said the Agro Cargo project had futuristic socio-economic benefits that would positively impact the entire value chain of the agro-processing sub-sector of agriculture, as well as the livelihood of the people of the area.

Adenekan, opined that the project would create mega employment opportunities for the people of the State as a whole , describing the project as a major booster for economic transformation of the area, and by extension the State as a whole.

Highlighting the advantages derivable in the project, Mr. Adenekan revealed that the Airport would stimulate the growing economy of the zone, promote trade and commerce and further increase public-private partnership for new investments, among others.

“This is an excellent and indeed a testimony of a forward thinking government leaving a track record of good governance and legacy that will transform the economic status of the area to an emerging one putting into consideration the agriculture development status of the area. This is ultimately going to assist in the decongestion of Lagos”, he noted.

Stating the essence for the on-going assessment of the project, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Ministry of Budget and Planning,  Mr. David Onigbinde, revealed that the visit was to ascertain the authenticity of the monthly reports submitted on projects, while physical evaluation was to ensure conformity with the laid down procedures for the implementation of projects.

Speaking earlier, the Chief Surveyor of the project, Mr. Micheal Dannawh, informed that the Airport when completed, would function as a Cargo and Passenger carriers being constructed with the Runway almost done,  while the Control Tower, the administrative building, the Cargo Apron and the Taxiway were being worked on, assuring that the first phase of the project would be delivered soon.
