President John Magufuli of Tanzania is dead

President John Magufuli of Tanzania died yesterday night from heart complications, according to Samia Suluhu Hassan, his deputy. In a statewide broadcast on Wednesday, Hassan broke the tragic news and said there would be 14 days of national mourning while flags would fly at half mast.

Bandits in Nigeria have foreign sponsors -NSDC

The Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSDC) Ahmed Audi has said that bandits in Nigeria have foreign sponsors. Audi made this known on Wednesday during the training workshop for state commandants of the NSCDC in Abuja. 

Hijab causes crisis in Kwara

Following the lingering crisis of wearing hijab in some schools in Kwara State, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, should be held responsible if the controversy degenerates. On Wednesday, CAN urged the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the violence over the hijab policy. 

Meanwhile three persons reportedly sustained injuries as Muslims and Christian clashed over the issue of using Hijab by Muslim students in Baptist Secondary and Baptist LGEA Primary School, Ilorin, Kwara State.

FEC approves rehabilitation of PH Refinery

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the plan by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to rehabilitate the Port Harcourt Refinery with $1.5bn. The decision was taken yesterday at the meeting of the council presided over by the President Muhammadu Buhari.

ICPC arrestes former JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ojerinde

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), yesterday arrested a former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Dibu Ojerinde, over an alleged N900 million fraud. ICPC disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

Buhari condemns attack of traders in Niger

 President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday condemned the attack on a convoy returning from a weekly market in Niger Republic’s Tillaberi region in which many citizens were killed.

Bandits kill 3 soldiers, 5 others

Three soldiers and five residents of Kabasa village of Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State, yesterday lost their lives during an encounter with bandits. Seven others who sustained serious injuries are now receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Magami town.

Umahi’s aides resigns, join opposition

Three more aides of the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, have resigned their appointments with the state government. The aides, after their resignation, dumped the APC and joined the opposition party, PDP.

NCDC confirms 187 fresh cases of COVID-19

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed 187 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the country. The new report brings the total number of confirmed infections so far to 161,261.
