Nigerian Chevening Scholars from Cranfield, Norwich, Oxford, Guildford, Nottingham and Cardiff have visited the High Commissioner along with their colleagues in London.
Report says the light rain shower did not deter them from seizing the opportunity to step foot on the primary place in the United Kingdom that represents Nigerian soil, the Nigeria High Commission.
The meeting was initiated and arranged by the versatile Chevening Scholars’ Representative, Joseph Ihedoro Mbakwe, an Msc student, Water Engineering, Brunel University, London.
The scholars were received by the Nigerian High Commissioner’s representative, Ambassador Adamu Shuaib, Head of Consular, Welfare, and Education of the Nigerian High Commission to the United Kingdom.
In a welcome speech, the Scholars’ representative, Joseph Mbakwe, who introduced the scholars, highlighted the projects some of them are doing.
He emphasized the need for the High Commission to assist them by given the scholars opportunity to make greater impact with their work especially as the baton of leadership of Nigeria changes hands.
Mr Mbakwe extolled the importance of relationships as exemplified by the UK-Nigeria relations that culminated in the scholars benefitting from the Chevening Scholarship.
Some scholars spoke on various projects they were doing, noting the capacity to scale up their work for better impact.
In his response, Ambassador Shuaib, welcomed the scholars and regaled them with instances of where the impact would be felt most with examples from other countries.
He promised that the Nigerian High Commission will provide opportunities for networking and other helpful aids that will position the scholars for collaboration and scaling up of their work.
Other dignitaries present at the event were Dr. Samuel Jenfa, Founder and Chairman of SOWENON,
Hon. Al-Jaafaru M. Braimoh, CE0 and Founder of African British Consulting Limited, United Kingdom, and Hon. Kemi Omole, Executive Director, African British Consulting Limited, United Kingdom.
The high point of the event was a group photograph and entertainment with sumptuous Nigerian dishes, which brought back good memories of home.
