The lagos-Ibadan Expressway has been described as the busiest road in West Africa by Ogun State traffic managers, the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).
According to the Corps Public Relations Officer, Commander Babatunde Akinbiyi, the quantum of traffic generated by the road on daily basis is enormous noting that the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway tops the 12 major corridors delineated by the Corps for special monitoring.
In a chat with THE STATEPOST recently, the PRO said the Expressway is set aside for 24 hours motorized patrol on daily basis.
Asked why the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is that important to TRACE since it is classified as a Federal Road, Commander Akinbiyi explained that “the classification of roads into federal, States and Local Government’s does not hold water with the Corps”.
The TRACE image maker noted that the Corps cannot afford to ignore any road as long as it falls within the precinct of the state as human lives are what TRACE is safeguarding.
He pointed out that the laws establishing TRACE mandated it to work on all roads leading in and out of Ogun State adding that the Federal Government allowed for the setting up of States’ road managers as Federal apparatus only cannot suffice.
Commander Akinbiyi explained that “the Federal Roads Safety Corps are doing their bits and we are doing our’s and that’s why we work round the clock”.
He pointed out that in case of any accident, the first to reach the scene out of the two of us will start helping those involved because “we are talking of human lives, it cannot be politicised”.
He added that Ogun State Government ensadled its traffic management agency, TRACE to ensure efficient and effective road usage within and across the state with a view to ensure that traffic delays and congestions are eliminated.
