50 days to King Charles’ coronation
There are now 50 days remaining until Charles is crown king, and charities have launched a campaign to recruit thousands of volunteers ahead of the historic event
A campaign to recruit thousands of volunteers for more than 1,500 charities has been launched as part of the Coronation celebrations.
With 50 days to go before King Charles is crowned, the public are being urged to sign up for volunteering roles available on The Big Help Out app.
The Scouts, Royal Voluntary Service, Guide Dogs and thousands of smaller local groups are among organisations hoping to recruit volunteers.
Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds, a Scout Ambassador, said: “Volunteering is central to our national story.
“So it’s brilliant to see The Big Help Out, a festival of volunteering, is an official part of the Coronation celebrations.”

She said the app was a “one-stop shop for hundreds of thousands of opportunities across the country”.
Ellie said: “It’s all in one place, and easy to search to suit you, your interests, organisations in your local area.”
Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Deborah Meaden said: “I know a good idea when I see it.
“And the Big Help Out is one. That’s why everyone is joining in. Volunteers make a huge difference to people’s lives.”
Love Island star Faye Winter, a volunteer with Guide Dogs, said: “It’s so rewarding being a fosterer for Guide Dogs and knowing you’re helping a dog on their journey to support someone living with sight loss.”
Singer Elaine Paige, an Ambassador for the Royal Voluntary Service, said: “No matter what your level of skills, everyone can have a positive impact.”
Ceremonials minister Stuart Andrew called it “a tribute to His Majesty the King’s lifetime of public service”.
