The President of the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab has called on teachers in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the country to ensure a drug-free environment in schools.

Speaking during the Foundation’s “Drug Abuse Prevention Sensitization and Drug Free World” program conducted recently at Brighten Model School, Mologede, Magbon, Abeokuta, Ogun State,  Asiwaju Wahab  admonished teachers to ensure that students stay away from drugs, as it can hinder their academic performance and future success.

Asiwaju Wahab said the program which was aimed at educating students, parents, and teachers about the dangers in drug abuse and to promote drugs free lifestyles was necessary and urgent at the rate drugs and its abuse was becoming rampant in learning institutions across the nation.

He passionately implored teachers to be more committed in ensuring a drug-free environment in the schools while encouraging parents to take active roles in monitoring their children’s activities so as to prevent drug use.

He emphasised the importance of right parenting styles in preventing drug abuse among children, urging parents to be the role models for their children through appropriate good parenting at all times. 

The President of Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation called for the right parenting styles in preventing drug abuse among children and urged parents to monitor their children’s activities to prevent drug use.

He noted that “by working together, both teachers and parents can create a drug-free world and ensure a brighter future for our children”.

Asiwaju Wahab used a booklet titled “The Truth About Drugs” to engage the attention of the audience and all the participants including the parents, teachers, students/ pupils, community members and police signed the drug – free world pledge.  

In her response, the proprietress of Brighten Model School, Mrs. Aregbe Fausiah Arinola expressed gratitude to the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation for the successful program noting that all the lessons and admonitions imparted were appropriate for children upbringing both at home and in schools.

She assured the Foundation that her school, though devoid of drug abuse, would do more in order to maintain good behaviors among its pupils.

Mrs. Aregbe also called for regular follow-up programs to reinforce the lessons the Foundation is imparting and noted that the program should be expanded to other schools and communities.

Earlier, Mr Taorid Aregbe, the Director of Brighten Model School in his own speech, had reinforced the drug free message of Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, stressing the need for one to be disciplined in life.

Mr Aregbe pointed out that drug usage in any form is ruinous to life, career and future and urged students to avoid this damaging habit like a plague.
