Dr. Rafiu Adesola Soyele, Provost of Federal College

of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, Ogun State

Dr. Rafiu Adesola Soyele The Provost of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr. Rafiu Adesola Soyele has asked Nigerians to show understanding for President Muhammadu Buhari on the dismal issue of the challenges presently confronting the nation’s security, noting that it is the huge population of Nigeria that is making Mr. President’s efforts seemingly inadequate.
Dr. Soyele made the plea recently in his office at Abeokuta, the  state capital during a chat with the press to commemorate his 100 days in office.
The educator insisted that Nigerians should empathise with President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue of the nation’s security as he was sure that the president was not resting on his oars but working assiduously daily to restore normalcy to the country.
Dr. Soyele said the president’s efforts may not be readily obvious to most Nigerians because of the enormity of the country’s expanse and population.
Using the security case of his institution as an analogy, the provost noted that if he is finding it Herculean daily to ensure the security of 20,000 students and staff of the college, how much more that of a country as vast as Nigeria.
The provost noted that ensuring the safety of lives and properties in the school is a daily tug of war as “we have to work on security always, we cannot afford to rest on our oars.”
Dr Soyele said that the college has now installed telephones and street lights at strategic places in the campus to enhance the works of its security personnel adding that manpower in this sector would soon be increased to ensure adequate policing of the nooks and crannies of the campus.
To forestall miscreants, cultism and occult, he said the college has now banned unwanted elements at some places on campus.
In the bid to tighten its security further, the provost said he had also ordered clearing of bushes, mending of fence, construction of roads and bumps as well as re-roofing of old buildings.
An enormously big gate which the provost described as ‘alarming’ has now been constructed at the Alabata end of the school in Abeokuta to discourage poachers and land grabbers, the provost revealed.
