Ijebu Ode sits on earth’s fault line, minimize borehole drilling, quarry blasting, government warns residents

Thousands of property owners, as well as residents in Olomore, Lafenwa and the Araromi Oke – Odo communities in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital may soon be in serious trouble of being rendered homeless as Court has now granted the rightful ownership of the disputed parcel of land housing properties in these areas to the Shotoye Alakaloko family.
In a new twist over a disputed parcel of land housing properties in these areas, the Ogun State Ministry of Justice has empowered the Shotoye Alakaloko family to assert its rightful ownership of a disputed parcel of land housing their properties in the metropolis.
This is coming on the backsdrops of approval granted the family by the Ministry of Justice to enforce its rightful claim of ownership of the land, previously recognised as Alakaloko Village and spanning over 1 million hectares of land.
It would be recalled that one of the families neighbouring the disputed parcel of land; the Lumosa family, had in the year 2000, dragged the Alakaloko Family to court in suit no: AB/82/2000, seeking a declaration of the Court for the Statutory Right of Occupancy over the parcel of land “lying and being at Araromi Oke-Odo, Abeokuta” among other prayers.
Our correspondent also gathered that the disputed land, comprised of communities, which included the popular Olomore Hausa Pepper Market in Abeokuta; the Alaka – Araromi; Iyana Owo; Adura-l’agba and Harmony Estate, down to the in the Abeokuta North Local Government Areas of Abeokuta metropolis of which the Shotoye Alakaloko family eventually secured judgment over.
But in the judgment, first delivered by an Ogun State High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice E.O. Osinuga on the 28th of August, 2009, the court granted the defendant, the Shotoye Alakaloko family the ownership of the disputed land.
Dissatisfied however, the plaintiff; Lumosa Family appealed the High Court’s decission over the disputed land matter in suit no: CA/I/165/2011 but also lost to the defendant; the Alakaloko family, where the Appellate Court upheld the decision of the lower court and affirmed the Shotoye Alakaloko as the rightful owner of the disputed land.
In the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment delivered by the Appeal Court sitting in Ibadan, copy of which was obtained by our Reporter, the three Jurists, led by Hon. Justice Obietonbara Daniel-Kalio dismissed the appeal of the Lumosa family and consequently affirmed the Shotoye Alakaloko family as the rightful owner of the disputed land in the judgment delivered on the 20th March, 2015.
Consequent upon this however, the Shotoye Alakaloko Family resolved to take possession of its ancestral homeland and approached the state’s Ministry of Justice for security coverage in an efforts at effecting the Courts’ judgments after a 25-years of litigation.
Meanwhile, in acknowledging the Shotoye Alakaloko’s letter, the state’s Ministry of Justice, via a letter dated 11th September, 2025 and signed by the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade acknowledged the need to support the family in enforcing the courts’ judments to the letter.
Speaking with journalists yesterday in Abeokuta however, the head of the Alakaloko Village, Chief Nurudeen Sulaimon Alakaloko often refered to as the “Baale Alakaloko” vowed that his family will begin enforcement of judgment any moment from now but called on prospective landlords, whose property is within the disputed land to approach him or the family Lawyer for possible ratification.
