The Ogun State Command of the National Community Ethics and Value Environmental Compliance Corps (NCEVECC) has described its recent emergence in the state as a way of enlisting his men in the onerous task of reinstituting ethics into the fabrics of the state’s daily lifestyle.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Press Center, Iwe Irohin, Abeokuta yesterday, the Ogun State Corps Commander, Commander Johnson Obasanjo Onilu said NCEVECC officers are ready to partner the state in the area of sensitizing the people about ethical matters as well as dissuade them from getting involved in such vices.

He pointed out that this will go a long way in helping to build ethical standards and high values.

Commander Onilu noted that NCEVECC is worried by “the spate of ritual killings, banditry, arms stalking, cultism and other vices and are therefore battle ready and willing to contribute to government’s laudable efforts at ridding the state of all social vices.

He noted that his men would help to support Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commendable security efforts at policing the state to rid it of all forms of social vices as “unethical behavior leads to insecurity, kidnapping, rape, drug abuse, child abuse, cultism etc.”

“NCEVECC officers are aware of the responsibilities demanded to make people embrace the noble ethics required to make a good change in the country”, he said.

Commander Onilu noted that his officers and men ” are aware that the responsibilities demand that educating, sensitizing, realigning and persuading people to embrace noble ethics require that our moral compass must be strong and enduring.”

He pointed out that that was why his officers are compulsive models for others anywhere they are posted to in the country.

Commander Onilu informed journalists that the press briefing was called to intimate members of the public of the objectives of the corps as well as the aims and activities mapped out by its management team towards instituting ethically rational ethos into the consciousness of the people.

He opined that with the sensitization, “the people of Ogun State and indeed Nigerians will see distinctly the importance and the need to embrace the noble ethics for which Africans are known.”

The corps commander explained that NCEVECC officers do not carry arms or use horsewhips or any form of force to carry out their duties as they work with other security agencies in the country to ensure compliance from the public.

Highlighting the overall importance of ethics to good governance and orderly society, Commander Onilu said “environmental ethics are very important as they help us to conserve our world and manage our natural resources to meet our increasing needs and wants.”

Throwing more light on the National Community Ethics and Values Environmental Compliance Corps (NCEVECC), Commander Onilu said it operates under the umbrella of Foundation for the Advancement of Ethics and Values International FAEV Int’l,  an initiative of Dr. Sarah Jibril, a former Presidential Special Adviser to President Goodluck Johnathan on Ethics and Values who was said to have brought the idea from Canada and has since been launched in 2008.

The corps has Mr. Gana Yussuf as its Acting Commandant General. NCEVECC National Headquarters is in Abuja and has structures throughout the 36 states of the country.

Commander Onilu who introduced all the state officers and other high ranking officials of NCEVECC at the press briefing also seized the opportunity to decorate Comrade Soji Amosun, the Chairman of the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists as Commander of Honor of NCEVECC.
