The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun State has suspended one of its members, Abayomi Hunye, from the ward level to the state level, according to the Media Adviser and Chief of Staff to Senator Solomon Adeola, Kayode Odunaro.
Odunaro, who is also Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Ogun State APC Campaign Council, made the claim on Monday during an interview on FRONTLINE, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu.
The media adviser was responding to questions on the controversy surrounding the emergence of Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the APC candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election and the claims by Hunye that he remained a legitimate candidate for the party.
Adeola emerged from the APC governorship primary with 304,055 votes, while Hunye recorded zero votes in the result announced by the party’s primary election committee.
Addressing Hunye’s claim, Odunaro said the recognised primary process had established Adeola as the party’s candidate.
He said, “The fellow who called himself a candidate of APC scored zero in all the wards. After court verdict, it was said he actually scored zero.”
Odunaro further claimed that Hunye had been subjected to disciplinary measures within the party, saying the suspension had been communicated through the party’s structures.
“The party, from the ward level to the State level, has suspended him and already notified the national level,” he said.
The APC campaign council chairman also defended the process through which Adeola emerged as the party’s governorship candidate, dismissing suggestions that his emergence was imposed on other aspirants or stakeholders.
According to Odunaro, the process was based on an agreement among stakeholders within the party.
“It was initially a congenial arrangement, it was not an imposed consensus… it was a consensus based on the agreement of every relevant stakeholder,” he said.
He maintained that the APC remained united ahead of the 2027 election despite disagreements surrounding the governorship contest.
“I don’t see any disagreement that will have any injurious effect on the chances of the party in the 2027 election,” Odunaro said.
He described the party as strong across the state, attributing its position to the performance of the current administration and the activities of APC elected representatives.
“Very solid across the length and breadth of the State based on the good works of the governor and the good works of Senator Adeola and also elected representatives,” he said.
Odunaro’s comments come amid continuing political activity within the Ogun APC ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with the party’s choice of Adeola and the position of other contenders remaining subjects of political debate.
