The Ogun State Police Command has recorded significant successes in its sustained offensive against criminal elements across the state.

Through coordinated, intelligence-driven operations by its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, and the Ibafo Division, the Command achieved major breakthroughs in Abeokuta, Wasimi, and Ibafo communities.

The operations led to the arrest of six suspects identified as Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq, popularly known as “Okiki,” Mumuni Amodu, alias “Stone,” Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo,” and Adeboye Ojesina.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the intelligence-led operations were executed swiftly and precisely based on actionable intelligence.

The operations disrupted several criminal networks involved in illegal possession of firearms, armed intimidation, theft, conspiracy, and receiving stolen property.

Items recovered during the operations include a pump-action rifle, a locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, five generators, and nine Android mobile phones suspected to have been stolen.

VCRU Dismantles Generator Theft Syndicate, Recovers Stolen Items
Acting on credible and time-sensitive intelligence on May 30, 2026, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested Moruf Sodiq, alias “Okiki,” a key suspect linked to a generator theft syndicate operating within Abeokuta and its environs.

The suspect subsequently led operatives to Mumuni Amodu, alias “Stone,” identified as a receiver of stolen property.

A search of his premises resulted in the recovery of four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator, and nine Android mobile phones suspected to have been recently stolen.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo,” a motorcyclist alleged to have provided logistics support by transporting members of the syndicate to targeted locations during their operations.

The suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network.

SWAT Cracks Illegal Arms Network, Recovers Firearms and Ammunition
On June 12, 2026, operatives of the SWAT Unit, acting on credible intelligence, arrested 58-year-old Adeboye Ojesina over alleged unlawful possession of firearms and their use in threatening residents of Wasimi and neighbouring communities.

A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, a pump-action rifle, two live cartridges, and one expended cartridge.

Although the suspect initially denied ownership of the weapons, he later claimed he found the pistol in the area and fired a round to test its functionality.

He also alleged that the pump-action rifle had been handed to him by an unidentified individual who is currently being tracked by police operatives.

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other persons connected with the case.

Ibafo Division Uncovers Vehicle Parts Theft Ring
On June 13, 2026, operatives attached to the Ibafo Division responded to a complaint of theft at a site in Igbeti Sote Village, via Ibafo.
Prompt investigation led to the arrest of Afisu Awesu while he was allegedly attempting to steal a forklift engine component alongside an accomplice who escaped.

Further inquiries revealed that the suspects had earlier stolen forklift tyres from the same location and sold them to Bala Aminu of Kara, Ibafo. Detectives subsequently arrested Aminu for allegedly receiving stolen property.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the entire criminal network. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the professionalism and efficiency displayed by officers of the VCRU, SWAT Unit, and Ibafo Division.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and sustained pressure on criminal elements, assuring residents that Ogun State would remain hostile to criminal activities.

The Commissioner also assured residents of continued proactive policing and rapid response to security threats.

He urged members of the public to provide credible information to the police and, in emergencies, contact the Ogun State Police Command through the Gateway Shield toll-free line: 0800 000 9111, or the emergency numbers: 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369, and 0708 497 2994.
