Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has vowed to continue resisting all attempts to forcefully take-over the Edo state house of Assembly.
He added that he will do everything within his constitutional powers to protect the house and the state.
“For us as the executive, we will use the instrument available to us constitutionally to protect the house and the state.”
“Nigeria is governed by the constitution and President Muhammadu Buhari has always said we must follow the rules of law and do things according to the law,” he added.
The governor’s comments are coming shortly after 14 house of assembly members loyal to the All Progressives Congress, APC, were sworn-in at a secret location after the State House of Assembly complex was shut down by the state government for ‘renovations’.
Out of 24 members of the assembly, 17 are supporting the All Progressives Congress candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in the upcoming Edo State election.
Meanwhile, the emergence of Hon Victor Edoror as the new Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly may have narrowed drastically the chances of Obaseki’s reelection.
Information reaching us hinted that
Obaseki is now a recluse of himself and has hinted to his personal aides that if the Presidency finally makes a public statement endorsing the impeachment of the former speaker then he’s done with seeking reelection.
He has already taken a 24 hrs break to reevaluate the whole political situation.
With a mass resignation of PDP ward chairmen looming, Obaseki is scared of a big dent to his aspiration.
“Throwing in the towel might be the most reasonable move by Oga, His Excellency is very charged now and I can tell you he is currently reconsidering his second term bid.
All I can say for now is that Oga is really in a tight corner and considering not seeking a second term might be his only soft landing.

Obaseki is faced with multiple court cases on his eligibility to contest and an impending impeachment.
Not inaugurating elected members alone is an impeachable offence that ordinarily should be the first thing the lawmakers should address, for denying their constituents’ quality representation for more than a year then the implications should take effect.
