The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) will soon resuscitate the TRACE Mayors, its citizen participation initiative which permits selected volunteers to assist in traffic management on ad hoc basis.
The TRACE Corps Public Relations Officer, Commander Babatunde Akinbiyi who disclosed this during an interview with THE STATEPOST recently said the program had been tried before but mostly on civil servants.
Commander Akinbiyi said the Corps is going to make the program open to the general public this time, hoping they will passionately dedicate their time to the task of traffic management and not just decorate their vehicles with the paraphernalia of TRACE Mayors.
The Corps PRO said the program is akin to the Special Marshal of the Road Safety Corps as participating members of the public are expected to be gainfully employed since they will not be remunerated for the services rendered on traffic control and management.
He noted that this initiative will not only allow members of the public to be part of the Corps, it will also afford TRACE the opportunity to interact with the public, hence sensitize them.
The PRO also disclosed that the Corps is planning to widen the scope of its operations by creating more divisional commands.
To achieve this, he said TRACE is creating more commands in all the former local community development authorities (LCDA’s) so as to have a wider spread and be more nearer to the people even in the nooks and crannies of the state.
He noted that with the new plan, there will not be any corner of the state where you will not find officers of the Corps as long as there are roads, traffic and the motoring public there.
