The police has allayed the fears of the general public concerning tomorrow’s protest which is to be embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in solidarity with the protracted strike action of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU).
In a press release issued today, the Ogun State Police Command assured the general public that their safety is  guaranteed before, during and after the said protest.
The organised Labour through its leading union, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is planning a protest to register its displeasure with the way the Federal Government is handling matters of striking lecturers of universities in the country which has lingered for too long, spanning about half a year now.
In the release signed by DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Public Relations Officer of the state command, the police appealed to NLC and other affiliated groups who are participating in the protest to be civil and peaceful in order not to violate the rights of others.
The release reads: “in as much as protest is one of the inalienable rights of the citizens, the command wishes to appeal to NLC and other affiliated groups who might wanted to participate in the said protest to be civil and peaceful in order not to violate the rights of others”.
The command also appealed to the general public to go about their lawful businesses without fear of intimidation or harassment as Police and other security agencies will be fully on ground to monitor the situation so as to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the process.
Parents and guardians were also advised to warn their wards who may want to use the opportunity to foment trouble to have a rethink or face the consequences.
