At Statepost, we are committed to the highest standards of independent journalism. Our Editorial Policy serves as a public declaration of the principles that guide our reporting, editing, and content publication.
1. Our Editorial Mission
Statepost exists to be a reckoning force in nation-building through credible, fearless, and development-focused journalism.
We strive to be:

- Best in balanced and thorough reportage
- Most accurate and profound in our analysis and content
We remain fully independent, non-partisan, non-tribal, and non-religious. Our only loyalty is to the truth and the public’s right to know.
2. Core Editorial Principles
- Accuracy: Every story must be factually correct. We verify information from multiple reliable sources before publication.
- Fairness and Balance: We present all relevant sides of a story, especially on controversial issues.
- Independence: We do not accept bribes, gifts, or favors that could influence our editorial judgment. Our editorial decisions are free from political, commercial, ethnic, or religious influence.
- Transparency: We clearly distinguish between news reporting and opinion/analysis pieces.
- Public Interest: We prioritize stories that matter to the African public — especially those involving governance, accountability, human rights, corruption, and sustainable development.
3. Sourcing and Attribution
- We prioritize primary sources and official documents.
- Anonymous sources are used only when necessary, and we explain why the source requested anonymity.
- All significant claims are properly attributed.
- We do not plagiarize. All content is either original or properly credited.
4. Corrections and Clarifications
We are committed to accuracy. If an error is discovered:
- We correct it promptly and transparently.
- A correction note will be added at the top or bottom of the article explaining the change and when it was made.
- Major errors may result in a separate correction/clarification article.
5. Handling of Sensitive Topics
- We strongly avoid content that promotes hate speech, tribalism, religious division, or discrimination.
- We report on ethnic, religious, and political issues with utmost care and responsibility.
- We protect vulnerable groups and uphold human dignity in our reporting.
6. Sponsored Content and Advertorials
- Sponsored content or advertorials will be clearly labeled as “Sponsored” or “Advertorial.”
- Sponsored content is strictly separated from editorial content and does not influence editorial decisions.
7. Conflicts of Interest
All our journalists and contributors are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest. We do not publish stories where a conflict exists that cannot be properly managed.
8. User-Generated Content (Comments)
We encourage healthy public discussion. However, comments that are abusive, defamatory, inciteful, or violate our community standards will be moderated or removed.
9. Commitment to Press Freedom
We believe in the fundamental right of citizens to access truthful information. Statepost will continue to defend press freedom and the public’s right to know, even when it is difficult or risky.
