The former Governor of Edo State and former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adams Oshiomhole is one of the lucky winners to breast the tape in an early lead in the just held Presidential Election in the country as he had emerged the winner for Edo North Senatorial District in Edo.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr Adams Oshiomhole of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Saturday’s election for Edo North Senatorial District in Edo.
Prof. Benjamin Adesina, the INEC Returning Officer on Sunday in Auchi declared Oshiomhole as the winner of the polls with 107,110 votes.
He defeated the incumbent Senator, Francis Alimekhena of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 55,344 votes
“Adams Oshiomhole of APC having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared as the winner of the election conducted on the 25th of February for Edo North Senatorial District,” Adesina confirmed.
In a related development, the former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has also been declared winner of the Ogun East Senatorial seat in the National Assembly election.
Daniel polled a total of 115,147 votes to defeat other candidates in the contest for National Assembly seat.
The official results were announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Christopher Onwuka, at the Ogun East Senatorial Collation Centre in Itoro Hall, Ijebu-Ode.
Daniel cleared all the nine local government areas in the senatorial district, including Ijebu North, Odogbolu, Remo North, Sagamu, Ijebu North East, Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu East, Ikenne and Ogun Waterside.
A breakdown of the results showed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second in the senatorial election, polling 58,708 votes while the Labour Party (LP) followed with 13,061 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 1,716 votes, Social Democratic Party (SDP) got 1,151 votes while Allied Peoples Movement (APM) had 857 votes.
Both the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNIPP) polled 494 and 379 votes respectively while Action Peoples Party (App) secured 193 votes.
The National Rescue Movement (NRM) garnered 168 votes while People’s Redemption Party (PRP) polled 130 votes.
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and pollled the highest number of votes, Otunba Daniel was declared winner of the election”.
