In a powerful sign for our times, the Vatican has formally approved India’s first Eucharistic Miracle: the Miracle of the Holy Face of Vilakkannur, Kerala.
On November 15, 2013, during the celebration of Holy Mass at Christ the King Church in the small village of Vilakkannur (Syro-Malabar Archdiocese of Thalassery), something extraordinary occurred.
At the moment of the Elevation, after the Consecration, the priest, Fr. Thomas Pathickal, noticed a small dark spot appearing on the large Host.
As the Mass continued, the spot gradually transformed into a clear, radiant image of the Face of Jesus Christ, visible to the priest and those assisting at the altar.
The Host was reverently placed in a monstrance, and many faithful present witnessed this profound sign.
What began as a quiet miracle in a humble village church has now been thoroughly examined over 12 years through scientific, medical, and theological investigations.
On May 31, 2025, the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith gave its formal recognition, declaring it an authentic supernatural sign.
A solemn Mass of thanksgiving was celebrated with over 10,000 faithful, led by the Apostolic Nuncio to India.
Today, the miraculous Host, bearing the clear image of the Face of Jesus, is now venerated in an ornate golden monstrance at Christ the King Church in Vilakkannur.
The image remains preserved and incorrupt, a silent yet powerful testimony to the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist.
