The plan to build the hybrid pharma-warehouse which had reached advance stage would ensure the availability of essential medicines and medical supplies, towards improving access to quality healthcare.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Tomi Coker disclosed this during an inspection of the site of the proposed project at the Governor’s Office Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Dr. Coker said the construction of the Medical Store represents a significant milestone in the effort of the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to strengthen the health system, particularly in the area of drug storage, distribution, and availability for private and public sectors, in order to maintain its potency.
According to her, ‘’the centralised facility will enhance efficiency in the supply chain management of medicines, allowing for timely and effective distribution to health facilities against the one which is in the valley and also improve the quality of the drugs patients are receiving which will also come at a cheaper rate for the people across the State’’.
The Special Adviser noted that the project would be fully funded by UNICEF with counterpart funding by the State government, to ensure that the hybrid pharma-warehouse is delivered quickly.
He added that the UNICEF support was necessitated by the efforts of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in meeting the health needs of the people.
She noted that the State Health Insurance Scheme of the present administration places a premium on drugs, urging the residents to take advantage of the Scheme to get quality and free drugs so as to avoid unnecessary complications and death.
On his part, the contractor in charge of the project, Engr. Femi Adesoji of the FemAdex Investment Limited said the project is expected to be completed in four months, adding that his company would deliver quality jobs at the stipulated time.
